The BLM detector boxes were installed in the ring. We connected 3 fibers and 2 scintillator detectors in th ring to be able to observe the beam losses.

Cabling, connection and checks of the BLM without the beam.

Machine start-up. Modulator was switched on at ~9h30.

Good storage.

Check of the injector and injection in the ring. Looking for the signal of the BLM withthe beam. Sucesfully; the signal was found with the fibers (see the screenshot attached).

Strange behaviour with the storage shot-by-shot: better and worse storage.  Nicolas, Jean-Noel and Mohamed is trying to check it. All the chain from the synchro generator to the RF cavity was checked and it is OK. To be investigated.

9h30 Start of the modulator and lasser (GATE is closed).

9h46 Data is taken as background.

Cavity is tuned to 500.38 MHz. Optimization of the energy and phase. 

RF cavity OFF. After previous tuning, the orbit is the same. Based on the simple calculation, to match to orbits, the RF frequency should be reduced by 60 khz.

New tuning of the cavity at 500.32 MHz.

After energy and phase optimization, the storage is obtained with a small dispersive orbit. Probably the real frequency is 500.33 MHz.

Test to decreaase the frequency to see at which frequency we can operate with the FPC if needed. Tuning of the cavity at 500.22 MHz. No storage obtained.

New test at 500.27 MHz. The beam storage is obtained with the dispersive orbit. Machine is depleted. At the moment the lowest frequency at which we can potentially operate is 500.27 MHz.

Coming back to the machine frequency of 500.33 MHz. Storage is obtained. Optimization to be done.

Data are taking at each configiration.

During the shift, we monitored the beam losses measured by 3 connected fibers. The turn-by-turn losses are clearly visible.

Start of the modulator and laser at ~9h and hour later start the beam.

Working at 500.38 MHz to retrieve the previous state of the ring. Then switching to 500.33 MHz (assumed ring proper frequency).

- Optimization of the injection and ring (orbit, betatron/synchrotron oscyllations,  tune....)

- Load of the new optics with bigger MCF TDR_0.17_0.64_r56_0.4_sx_Dff41.2_DipMagnL.str : MCF=0.0231  chro=0/0. Optimization of the injector and the ring.

- Change the RF frequency to 500.25 MHz. Optimization of the injector nd the ring. The sufficient storage is obtained.

- Going to the 500.33 MHz and working on the orbit, energy and phase.

Observation: either energy or phase of the injector is not stable, it oscillates, so the amplitude of the synchrotron oscillations changes a lot (seen by the TbTX oscillation amplitude). Like this it is very difficult to find the proper energy and phase for the ring. We saved the trend (max TbTX). to be understand and worked out.

Start of the beam. Problem with charge, the max charge at the end of the TL 60 pC. We can not increase it by the attenuator. To be understood.

Corrector ri-c2/ps/str.03-h.01 does not work => problem to control and tune the orbit. JNC will look at it. 

permanent probmem with Libera.02 and Libera.04

Work at 500.32 MHz without orbit correction.

Starting point nominal lattice D1Thomx_017_064_r56_02_chro00 with the MCF=0.014  chro=0/0

Goal: test the new lattice with MCF=0.0231  chro=0/0 which alows to decrease the RF frequesncy down to 500.25 MHz. This will make possible operation witht eh FPC.

Total charge measured by the ICT was 60-70 pC. It was not possible to increase it with the attenuator. 

Start working with the new laser spot position on the photocathod (after previous shift by linac group). This also includes the different solenoid alignment and laser positorn feedback setting. We came back to our usual settings.

Work started witht he nominal optics at 500.32 - 500.33 MHz. Correction the orbit and minimization of the synchrotron oscillations. Check the tunes. Observations: it is not possible to reduce considerably the synch. oscilations due to some jitter from injecton to injecton. We do not know whether it is the energy or phase jitter, to be investigated. From orbit measurements w/o RF, we see that that std of the hor. orbit (injection by injection) at BPM3 (high D region) is about 0.26 mm. With the D ~ 1m => dp/p = 0.026 %. It is kind of compatible with the injector energy jitter seen at TL BPM2 : 1 mm correspods to ~0.1% dp/p. It would be good to have some information about the phase stability beetween the ring trigger and the laser. As the result of such jitter, it is difficult to find the proper E and phase and so, correct closed orbit.

RF freq = 500.25 MHz. Dispersive orbit is obtained. Optimization of the injection and storage. No betatron oscillation, should be investigated. A good storage is obtained, which could be further optimezed. 

Work on the BBA. The algorythm does not work correctly with the current TbT orbit. The jitters are quite large in order to detect the orbit change due to quadrupoles/correctors change. Under investigations. 

Measurement of the emittance. The proper/full quadrupole calibration was worked out B(I) from -12 to 12 A. The emittance was measured at 210 A and 220 A. At 220 A from the data taken, the vertical emiitance can not be estimated (gives the imaginary numbers). See the ppt attached.

Suggestion: commission the MRSV to be able to visualize the beam in the ring and set-up fully the EL to be able to measure the chrage and beam images.

End of August: take another data for emittance and study BBA.

Problem to start the RF cavity (no injected power, the delta f jumps a lot and the motor position can not converge). Mohamed is contacted.

Problem to restart the DS for the control of the FP cavity table. The CC team is contacted. We are waiting for intervention.

11h25 Modulator on stand by

Thanks to Kevin and Mohamed the RF cavity is OK. Restqrt of te beam.

In parallel, Vincent, Ronic and Kevin are investigating the sunchro with the FPC.

The injector is very unstable in energy (random slow change on the TL BPM 2 + usual problem with attenuator ) and LIL phase change/drift (from 114 to 88 deg. during the day). Presence of misstrigering from time to time during the day.

For a certain parameters, a good storage was obtained. But then, due to change of injector parameters the conditions were not kept. Work on the BBA.

Very difficult to work in such conditions, especially on BBA.
