Optimization of the injection and storage (see fig attached). At the end, injection with no losees!

Preparation for the orbit correction eluminating not working correctors. After several studies and iterations, we suceeded to correct the orbit (see the fig attached). Meanwhile, it seems that the BPM  ri-c2/dg/bpm.04-lib.05 (quite certain as it did not respond to the corrector change) and probably  ri-c1/dg/bpm.04-lib.03 do not give the proper readings. This point should be checked as soon as possible.

Problem with ChD of the ri-c2/dg/bpm.04-lib.05 (see the fig attached). We checked the connection in the rack5. We found that the BPM ri-c2/dg/bpm.04-lib.05 ChA was swaped with ChA BPM ri-c2/dg/bpm.06-lib.05 => Slava changed it. Now it is OK. BUT still ChD stays without signal. The problem is in the casemat probably. To be checked.

Starting the preparation for the first tune estimation. For this, we switched ON the sextupoles (see fig attached). Withour sextupoles, the FFT signal is too "noisy".

Optimization of the injection with the multiparameter optimizer RCDS, work in progress.

Alims IHM is updated by Slava to have separetly hor. and vert. correctors displayed.

Laser amplifier was somehow OFF. Very strange situation and not clear why it happen. To be understood.

Call Viktor, who came and start the laser.

Start the beam. No beam. No e- from gun. Call Vincent.

Many instabilities in e-beam signals.

Retuning Linac, attenuator =2.114  for 50 MeV (why ??? calibration problem ?)

Work on orbit correction, starting from natural one. Slight optics tuning. Frequency 500.067 MHz. The hor. tune is 0.18

Small horizontal, small vertical steerers.

At some aatenuator or frequency values, the energy jitter appears and a lot of mistriggers.

All systems were started.

We switch on the RF and found problem with the reflected RF power in the gun. Checked the temperature and found that chiller failed to set the proper temperature.

Srudies of the RF freq change. it is clear that it changes the phase of the RF cavity. Not clear if it is OK for th e measurements.

=> It is very important to measure the deltaPhase introduced by the RF transport lines in order to proceed with the measurements.

The vert cteere in the ring shuld be checked/repaired.

Nicolas H and Alex L from SOLEIL came to participate in the shift.

Nicolas H configured phase_offset for all Libera to reduce the jutter in the TbtSum signal. After this, the signal became more stable.

Nicolas H, VC, VM and IC measured the jutter of the BPM wrt the injection trigger. it was found that the jitter is 12 ns !!!!! Then, it was also confirmed by measuring the jitter on the scitillator detector signal. This is a big problem, which should be considered/solved asap.

With the help of Alex L, the good transport is done until the last BPM of the Ring (see file attached). The task now is to try to futher correct the trajectory for the second turn. From the vertical orbit we suspect that dipoles could be missaligned at the IP region. To be checked if it is compatibe with the simulations.

Discussion on the allignment of the Ring should be organized to get the last measurement results and understand, what can be done in terms of the correction of the dipole tilts/shifts if it will be needed.

The example of the one possible trajectory is attached.

With the scintillator detector installed near the septum, we see the beginning of the second turn (see file attached). It is useful diagnostics as the BPM will give the evidence of the 3rd turn only (Libera averages the signal from 2 turns).

On last Friday, we found that there is a potential problem with QUAD 9, 10 an 12 as by switching them OFF, we obtained better transport and finally had the evidance of the seconf full turn.

Today, we checked the polarity and found that the polarity of the RI-C2/PS/QP.10 was inversed at the level of power supply (even though was checked last time in July). We have restore the good polarity of the RI-C2/PS/QP.10 by swapping the cables at the PS. 

We plan to check the beam transport in the afternoon.

Beam is stored !!!!! ~400 turns (limited by the Libera response)

 

Stored beam, visible  more than 300 turns,  signal decay as estimated  due to Libera cutoff filters. To store more, RF cavity should be used.

Stable closed orbit!

Important milestone is achieved.

No losses at scintillator/fiber except for the injection, see oscilloscope screenshot.

Current machine settings are stored in recipe_recipe_LI_TL_RI_20221003_20_24_01.txt

Orbit is stable for more than one hour. End of the shift.

Modulateur Impossible à passer en Standby ==> problème manque d'eau.

      * Remise à ~4bars le réseau principal

      *  Restart du soft du modulateur (sinon l'erreur reste)

Iris 4 mm  Qmax sur LI/SST.01 = 80.7 pC std 14.2

Iris 3 mm Qmax = 64.6 std 14.2 pC

Iris 2 mm Qmax = 32.4 std 11.2 pC

Iris 1 mm Qmax = 10.4 std 11.9 pC

Mesure energie avec les steerers : 52 MeV

Ouverture iris 4 mm Qenergie max = 66 pC (phi energie max = 216)

13h13 Recipe saved for the ring. Injection optimised.

14h Camera MRSV non accessible => a verifier dans la casemate

14h05 etude de l' effet de l' iris laser sur LI/DG/BPM.01. Les 4 copies d'ecran correspondent a 4 valeurs d'iris different de 4mm a 1mm.

16h Etude systematique de la position sur LI/DG/BPM.01 vs iris. Cf images jointes.

L'attenuation etait trop forte, a basse charge (iris ferme) la position etait domine par le bruit.

Si l 'attenuation est trop forte (32dB), les mesures saturent. Il faut regler l 'attenuation de LI/DG/BPM.01 a -15dB.

Étude similaire sur TL/DG/BPM.01. Cf images jointes. Il faut regler l 'attenuation de TL/DG/BPM.01 a 0dB.

Arret machine 16h26.

Note: RI-C2/DG/MRSV n'était pas branché. Il va falloir se procurer les câbles correspondants.
